Sara DeVries - 8/26/2021
Sara DeVries, Community Relations Manager of Herrick District Library and former club member, told us all about the great offerings at our awesome library. Education and Literacy is the Rotary area of focus for September. Below is Sara giving her TEDxMacatawa talk in 2017.

Golf outing
David Steenwyk and Charlie Soria are organizing a 9 hole scramble for Friday, September 17 with tee times of 3:00, 3:09, and 3:18 pm. This will be followed by dinner in the clubhouse at Macatawa Golf Club.

9 holes and a cart is $25 for seniors 60 and older, $45 for non-seniors, payable at the club house when you arrive.  We should each be able to pay our own check in the restaurant, so non-golfers are welcome to join the meal.

Please email David at david@macatawatechnologies.com if you are interested in joining in some Rotary fun and fellowship--please bring a friend and introduce them to Rotary!

HANWASH donations for Haiti Earthquake relief

Some bits from a letter by Ryan Rowe, executive director of HANWASH regarding the recent earthquake:

"Our hearts are heavy at the news of the earthquake this morning which struck southwestern Haiti quite hard. Thank you for your outpouring of support...There is a pressing need for cash donations to support immediate relief for victims and their families: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ESJ9N2CASADV2.

This afternoon, Rotary's District 7020 created a team (including HANWASH) to oversee outreach and fundraising through a non-profit entity called the Disaster Network Assistance Rotary Action Group (DNA-RAG). "

First and foremost, we are very grateful our local team was out of harm's way traveling elsewhere at the time. We are relieved that Rotarians in the Clubs of Aquin, Camp Perrin, and Les Cayes and Rotaractors in the Club of Les Cayes are also safe and sound. However, as you can imagine, they have family and friends who are affected and they have suffered damage to their homes and businesses.

In terms of local infrastructure supported by HANWASH, our initial assessment is that water continues to flow which is critical in the aftermath. We are assessing water quality to identify and mitigate any additional risks to human health in the fragile post-earthquake situation."
