John Shea, Assistant District Governor, was with us and talked about Rotary programs. He first talked about our local Heart Safe program. This program trains people in CPR, and has apps that can alert you when CPR is needed and where the closest AED is to your location. So far, this program has saved 2 lives in our community. Other Rotary clubs in Michigan have expressed interest in getting their community certified as Heart Safe. Andy Brown from the After Hours club is working with 3 other communities.
John awarded pins for the Polio Plus Society to Ed Swart, Carol Swart, Jim Hagel, Catherine Ristola Bass, and Chuck Warren. Polio Plus was launched by Rotary in 1985 to eliminate Polio from the world. So far, 18 million lives have been saved from this disease that cripples or kills children under 5 years old. The plus part indicates that the program also vaccinates against measles, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus.
The Rotary Annual Fund gives our district grant money for projects. Clubs can only receive grants if their members average $100 per year in donations. Our club is very close to the $100 average, but this must be donated by the end of June.

This middle school leadership conference takes place this year on June 10, 11, and 12. More information is located here.
Donated bedsheets needed
Rotary provides bedsheets for the attendees. This year, we could use 34 more sheets. Flat sheets only in extra-long twin or full sizes. Contact Carol Swart if you can donate sheets.
Volunteers for Programming
Adult volunteers help run the programs and can sign in participants, be involved in a mock trial, act as an accident victim in first responder training, and perform other duties.
Our clubs need two or three new monitors for the Book House team. Your help will be appreciated with this search! Please chat with fellow Rotarians, friends, or even relatives—anyone who might make a great monitor.
If you find someone interested, just let me know and I’ll reach out to share the location and expectations with them.
