GH Musical Fountain how they do their shows!

Join us for Rotary this week, as the speaker is Jerry Troke, Chair of the Grand Haven Musical Fountain Committee. We will learn how they create the musical fountain shows that dazzle summer visitors in Grand Haven.
Leaders for the 21st Century 2024 edition
Our annual Leaders For the 21st Century conference is coming up June 12-14th. Anne Whittlesey will be at our meeting with sign-up sheets again. If you won't be at the meeting, you can email  leadersforthe21stcentury@gmail.com with your name, phone, email, and how you would like to help.

Here are the activities.

Wednesday, June 12

8:45 am to 9:45 am Registration.  Meet parents and middle school Leaders, check them in, hand out bed sheets Voorhees Front Steps (lobby if raining)

5:50 pm to 7:00 pm Rotary Mock Trial.  Rotarians participate in a mock trial with the Leaders in break-out groups.  Instructions and script are provided.  Martha Miller Center (across from the Maas Auditorium).

Thursday, June 13

Noon until 1:00 pm Rotarian Luncheon.  This Luncheon is held in the Maas Auditorium during the Noon Club’s regular weekly meeting time.  Leaders join Rotarians and get to know each other over a plated meal.  Hope College is catering the meal and will need to know our numbers, so signing up is important.  We hope to have between 50 and 60 Leaders, so the more the better!

Friday, June 14             morning – early afternoon

9:30 am to 10:15 am Help judge a competition held outside in the Pine Grove behind Voorhees.  Instructions will be provided.

12:50 pm to 1:30 pm Get to Know a Rotarian.  Small groups of Leaders interview individual Rotarians and later present what they have learned about their Rotarian to the larger group.  Held in the Bultman Center’s Great Room.

4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  Check out and Reception.  Front of Voorhees Dormitory.  Meet and greet parents, handle collection of name tags, sheets, and most importantly, the parent sign out of their Leader.

4:30 pm to 5:15 pm  Prep for graduation; set out programs, greet the guest speaker when they arrive, open the doors for parents and others at 5:00 pm.  Maas Auditorium

5:00 pm to 6:00 pm (maybe 6:15 pm)  Graduation Audience.  Having Rotarians present in the audience is highly desirable.  Arriving a few minutes earlier to mingle with parents outside the Maas is nice, but the Auditorium doors will open at 5:00 pm

Interact Student El Salvador house building Trip

For 24 years Interactors from the US have been traveling to El Salvador to partner with the Rotary Club of San Salvador and build houses. The original goal was to build 100 houses. That number was surpassed a couple of years ago.

Kona Ly from the West Ottawa High School Interact club was one of 40 students who went on a trip earlier this year. He raised the money to pay for the trip himself. This year's trip built 6 houses while working alongside the eventual homeowners. Kona described the construction methods using large bricks with mortar.

Kona felt the trip helped him to understand how much we take for granted in this country. He had to be very careful with drinks and food to avoid sickness. The Salvadoran Rotarians made sure that the Interactors were cared for.
